I can open the WD on another old laptop, so cables etc are good- the other laptop is not mine however and thus I need to be able to open on my New Laptop ( my original old one DIED). Very frustrating to have a backup system for all my files and now find out I am out of luck. When trying to download from WD update, I keep getting the error " can not in S mode- must switch out of S mode". The last time I used it was on an older version of Windows- I thought it was 10 but could have been older like 8 ( that computer is no longer working). I CAN see the file, however Windows is not allowing me to open and run for the first time on a new laptop.
When I look at the compatibility from the device manager, the highest is shows is Windows 8. I have a WD My Passport purchased around 2016. I have worked with WD My passport support and still not getting anywhere.
